Teaching Mission Statement
The main goal for teaching classes is to give the students as much information and experience as possible so that they will be able to:
- Complete the class painting
- Give them the encouragement to start working on their own and
- Really experience The Joy of Painting as Bob Ross meant it to be.
Classes are done step by step so no one will be left behind, and each student no matter of their experience will be able to be successful.
There are no requirements for previous painting experience, anyone can do it by following the instructors instructions. It is normal to have one or more totally inexperienced students in classes, and they do very well. The only time a person fails is when they force themselves to fail. We experience the "JOY OF PAINTING".
The main objective of each class is to teach the technique, so the student will be able to apply the methods to their own work... No two paintings will be alike, because everyone has a different way of interpreting color, shape and composition. Students are encouraged to paint the picture to their own satisfaction, using the technique taught, not to just copy what the instructor has done.
All supplies will be furnished to complete the painting in the time allotted each day in the workshop price. The canvas size will be 16X20. This is an oil painting, and we use only high quality odorless paint thinner.
About the Artist: Bill E. Carnahan
Bill has been mainly self taught, taking only a few adult education workshops in the beginning of his art experience over 40 years ago. He has enjoyed painting in oils, trying to capture nature as he sees it. Bill has a wide array of subjects; flowers, old barns and buildings, wildlife, landscapes, seascapes and an occasional experiment just to be different. He spends a lot of time really looking at nature to better understand how to put it on canvas. Bill painted for many years just for the enjoyment of it, teaching numerous adult education classes across the state of Washington.
In 1992 he went through the Bob Ross certification program and is certified to teach both Bob Ross landscapes and florals. Bill enjoys sharing his knowledge of painting with others, young and old alike. He has taught and is still teaching classes and workshops in many locations in eastern and western Washington. He has traveled where ever there was a group wanting to have a class, from Port Angeles to Spokane to Walla Walla to Vancouver and all points in between.
During the 4 year recuperation from a serious auto accident he started painting more wildlife and flowers of the Pacific Northwest, and began participating in Art Shows.
He has shown at many of the major Western and Fine Art Shows in Oregon and Washington. Including the Pacific Rim Show in Seattle and the National Western Art Shows in Spokane, Ellensburg, and Puyallup.
Bill has pieces of his art in several private collections across the United States and some Foreign Countries.
He currently has art displayed in the Crow's Nest Gallery in Polson Montana, Paml and Wood-n-Acres Gallery in Yakima.
Bill is one of the founding members to the Northwest Artist Association and is one of the artists featured in a book published in 2005, "Notable artists of the Pacific Northwest".
